Hello again friends and family!
I had so much fun creating this blog last year (click here, in case you missed year 1). This project brought our family closer to Christ. Instead of thinking about “lights, presents, trees, Santa Claus and the elf on the shelf”…we were able to focus more on His birth, life and mission.
As 2015 progressed, I kept wondering what my friends and family members’ favorite songs were. So I decided to ask. I received a fantastic response! I can say that this year, I have found some NEW Christmas songs that will be added to our family’s Christmas playlist. I have also heard some familiar ones that I previously didn’t like but now I do because I have heard others’ stories behind them.
Something I have discovered during this process: EVERYONE has a story connected with their favorite Christmas song (be it a memory, experience or a thought). That got me thinking…why do Christmas songs invoke such thoughts and feelings? Is it because we are our “best selves” at Christmas time? Is it the magic in the air? Or is it a loving Heavenly Father pointing you toward his son, Jesus Christ? Whatever the reason, this time of year is different and it’s good.
So, following the same pattern as last year…I’ll be posting one Christmas song a day until Christmas. However, this year’s postings will be written by my friends and family. I have asked them all to choose songs that they believe focus on the redemptive mission of Christ.
I believe it’s important to openly share our thoughts about Jesus Christ…about his birth, life and mission. I believe it’s especially important to share online. So please share the postings on all of your social media platforms. Share your thoughts. Comment on the postings and the blog. I have no other motive than to spread the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
One last reminder…to get the most out of this blog, do the following: read the lyrics as you listen to the music. You will get more out of the songs if you follow the lyrics as you listen. The intended message of the composers and authors will sink deeper into your soul. Lyrics are powerful. And music is powerful.
I hope you discover some new favorites this year (like I did). And I hope that this year’s postings will help you in your Redemption of Christmas.
Merry Christmas from the Campbell family!
-Stew
